Dennis Rainey: Marriage is tough, and at times every one of us probably has thought about giving up. The key word is thought. No matter how hopeless the situation seems or how lousy you feel, I urge you never to say the D word -- divorce -- in your home.
In Proverbs 18:21, we read, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue." Words do have power. If you first think about divorce and then talk about it, before long, that which was once unthinkable becomes an option. If you, or your spouse, in times of anger have threatened divorce, then there's a wonderful restorative cure. It's called grace and forgiveness.
One final thought. Consider striking the word "divorce" from your vocabulary. After praying about it, commit to your spouse that you will never use the D word when working through problems in your relationship.
