Dennis Rainey: Is the competition for your spouse finished, or could someone else win his heart?

Guest: There were times over the years when I would always be a little bit nervous. Every once in a while he'd talk about so-and-so at work, and some great quality she had, or something, and I'd be, obviously, a little jealous.

Dennis Rainey: Obviously, that husband shouldn't make his wife jealous. But hopefully his words will remind his wife that the competition for her husband's heart is not over. Ladies, other women may be interested in competing for your man. Men, has it ever occurred to you that there may be a man who has his eye on your wife?

In a healthy way, Barbara and I try to stay mindful that the competition is not over for one another. Yes, we are secure in our marriage commitment. But, no, we are not lazy. We realize that men and women will not go shopping for pleasure, fulfillment, excitement, or companionship, if they have all they can handle at home.

One final thought. Have you neglected your spouse? Why not start competing for him or her again? If you do that in a healthy way, it'll not only produce a more healthy marriage, but a more satisfying one as well.

I'm Dennis Rainey, and that's Real Family Life.
