Dennis Rainey: I remember playing "hide or seek" when I was a child. I was good at hiding. No one could find me. But after a while, the sheer joy of knowing I had outwitted my buddies was overridden by my solitude. It was this loneliness that invariably would flush me out into the open.
In our marriages, we can become good at hiding. We mask ourselves and don't allow people to see us as we really are. We feel that if others discover our faults, they'll reject us. The problem is, hiding leads to loneliness and isolation.
One final thought. Is there any area of your life that you've been hiding from your mate? Are there things you're afraid to talk about because you don't like to be vulnerable? Why don't you figure out a good time to talk with your mate? Then quit playing hide and seek, and come on out into the open.
