Dennis Rainey: What's the best advice you've ever given to another person?

Guest: The piece of advice that I've often given people and that I try to use on myself is just to do nothing out of desperation. To not panic, to think that you have to do something just because you think the change needs to be made.[ Read Full Transcript ]

Dennis Rainey: In the 1950s, a popular slogan was "The family that prays together ... stays together." I'd love to see that slogan make a return to prominence. This is THE singlemost important spiritual discipline that every Christian marriage needs to practice. Husbands and wives MUST pray together -- daily.

I was given that advice back in 1972. As an eager young husband, I immediately applied the advice. In the years since then, my wife Barbara, and I have missed daily prayer fewer than a dozen times. That discipline has helped us resolve conflicts, kept communication flowing, and, most importantly, acknowledged our dependence upon Jesus Christ.

One final thought. I believe that without a doubt, your marriage will grow stronger if you will pray together as a couple. Why don't you begin tonight?

I'm Dennis Rainey, and that's Real Family Life.
