Dennis Rainey: Have you ever felt like your prayer life with your spouse is just "dead in the water"?

Guest: What I'm finding is that in my mind I have this "We have to pray together every day at the end of the day," and I find that, the way our lifestyle is, we get to the end of the day and we're both exhausted. And one of us maybe is already asleep, and we wake the other person up and say, "Hey! We forgot to pray."[ Read Full Transcript ]

Dennis Rainey: You know, for my wife Barbara and me, the dry times in our prayer life remind me of "the doldrums." It's an ocean condition that occurs near the equator, where the wind may die for weeks, leaving sailing ships stranded. You know what? Sometimes your prayer life can feel like it's stuck in the doldrums, too.

One way to put the wind back in your sails might is praying through the Scriptures. Select a portion of the Bible, perhaps one of the Psalms, and read a verse or two out loud with your spouse, then pray a comment related to the theme or phrases you've just read. Take turns reading and praying, and work your way through an entire chapter in the Psalms.

One final thought. Using God's words to talk to Him can be refreshing. Try it with your spouse tonight! Who knows, maybe it'll even get you out of the prayer doldrums.

I'm Dennis Rainey, and that's Real FamilyLife.
