Dennis Rainey: Why is it so important to pray every day with your mate?
Guest: My parents divorced in 1981 after 33 years of marriage. I've often wondered if their lack of praying together during their marriage led to their divorce.[ Read Full Transcript ]
Dennis Rainey: Early in our marriage, Barbara and I got into the habit of praying together before we'd go to sleep. I think the habit of acknowledging God's presence in our marriage saved us from many nights of isolation.
I remember one time we ended up in bed facing opposite directions. I was angry over some argument we had had and didn't want to say another word that night. But my conscience said, "Aren't you going to pray with your wife?" After some internal struggles, I turned over and said, "Sweetheart, will you forgive me?" I couldn't pray with her and harbor bitterness towards her at the same time.
One final thought. Nightly prayer can keep a husband and a wife from building walls between them. Tonight, why don't you lead your mate in prayer? Make it a nightly habit for the rest of your marriage together.
