Dennis Rainey: Is "no-fault" divorce a good thing?
Guest: Male: No, I don't think it is a good thing. I think there needs to be consequences if you back out of your vows or you break your vows.
Female: I'm sure there is no such thing as truly, a no-fault divorce.
Dennis Rainey: Hundreds of thousands of marriages are dissolved each year in the courtrooms of our land under the law of "no-fault divorce." It's the modern way for two people to wash their hands of a marriage, and terminate all responsibility to one another.
Now think about it, if no one is at fault, no one can be blamed for the marriage not working. But think of it, if it's no one's fault, then whose responsibility is it to make the marriage work in the first place?
Someone IS "at fault" here. The cure for our nation's divorce epidemic is a vaccine of biblical accountability and Godly responsibility to keep our covenants, to keep our vows, and to keep our commitments.
One final thought. Your spouse needs to hear you take responsibility for your marriage. Begin by reaffirming your commitment to your spouse that your marriage is "til death do us part."
I'm Dennis Rainey, and that's Real Family Life.
