Dennis Rainey: How do you know that you married the right person?

Guest: 1. The way a person can know they married the right person is, if they can picture themselves with that person in fifty years.
2. I would say time. If the marriage would last more than ten years, then I would know I married the right person.[ Read Full Transcript ]

Dennis Rainey: It's easy for someone to go through a tough circumstance in their marriage and let that thought nag them. "Did I marry the wrong person?" Let me encourage you. If that question arises, conquer it now. If you don't resolve the doubt quickly, it will hang like a distant cloud on the horizon of your relationship.

Let me assure you. You're married to the right person. Your mate is a gift from God and He wants your marriage to last. You may have gone against some biblical instructions in getting to where you are in your marriage right now. But the Scripture is clear. Don't try to undo what you think is a mistake by disobeying God and getting a divorce today.

One final thought. When you're faced with a situation that points out the differences between you and your mate, remember that they're God's perfect gift to you. He will help you learn to love and accept your spouse just as he is.

I'm Dennis Rainey, and that's Real FamilyLife.

This must have been God speaking to me through this message as well! I have been married 6 years and have been tormented with the fear of going to Hell , because perhaps I married the wrong person that I am unequally yoked to instead of accepting warnings not to. I was laying on the couch deep in depression listening to sos radio and trying to pull through, when I heard Dennis Raineys words. It made me bounce up and listen. Could this be confirmation that I dont have to get a divorce to correct my mistake and fix the problem?

WOW, I know it is God speaking to me through this message today- I am experiencing a difficult time in my marriage right now. My husband up and walked out and is requesting seperation papers and just one fleeting thought about did i marry the right person did cross my mind. Of course I knew I had before I married b/c I prayed for God to send me the best mate for me why should I doubt that. What a wonderful reminder that my mate is a gift from God. thank you Family Life.
