Guest: I have a family member who is a Christian, who was married, and unfortunately he decided to have an affair, and unfortunately their marriage ended in divorce. It's very disappointing to me that he acted that way.[ Read Full Transcript ]

Dennis Rainey: Do you know what's disappointing to me? That there's little difference in the divorce rate between those in the culture, and those in the church.

As believers in Jesus Christ, we should understand how important it is to keep our marriage covenants. We read in scripture that God hates divorce. We know that marriage is a picture of Christ's love for his bride, the church. We know that the world is waiting to see the power of God manifested in the lives - and the marriages - of His people. Christians need to have marriages that go the distance.

One final thought. If you're married, you made a covenant before God to stay true to your spouse until separated by death. Honor God by following through with that commitment. Not through human strength, but through His power.

I'm Dennis Rainey, and that's Real FamilyLife.

I agree that it's sad that divorce seems an "easier" way to solve marriage issues. However, what about abusive situations? Are Christians still bound to a spouse that physically or mentally abuses them and/or their children?
