Dennis Rainey: His words remind me of a statement the scientist Lord Kelvin made, when an experiment didn't work as planned. He said, "When you are face to face with a difficulty, you are up against a discovery."
That's true in marriage as well. Here are a couple of things to remember when you and your mate are facing a tough situation… ways to turn your difficulty into discovery:
- Fight the tendency to withdraw.
- Be patient when your mate is feeling emotional.
- Be thankful for what you do have. The hymn writer said it well, "Count your blessings, name them one by one…"
One final thought. When you're in the middle of difficult circumstances, turn TOWARD your mate, not away. Together, you'll discover new opportunities for your marriage to grow.
