Dennis Rainey: Does it feel good to you, to give something to another person?

Guest: I just love to give. It can be a meal at my house, it can be helping somebody out, giving them a ride someplace, it doesn't necessarily have to be financial. I really enjoy giving.[ Read Full Transcript ]

Dennis Rainey: There is a law in the Bible that appears to be a paradox. Jesus said that if we give to others, in turn we'll receive. One woman wrote me and said "I have realized that in giving of myself, I am actually getting in return a spouse who feels good about himself, and in return, that makes me feel good about myself." It's amazing how that works.

Can you think of ways you can give to your spouse? Well let me share some ideas with you. Give your mate a backrub, even if you're tired. Perhaps your spouse likes to take walks. It may not be your favorite, but take a walk anyway. The little sacrifices you make in giving to your spouse will enhance your relationship.

One final thought. Even if you feel you've given and given for years, please don't give up. Remember when you give of yourself to your spouse, you might even receive an improved relationship in return.

I'm Dennis Rainey, and that's Real Family Life.
