Dennis Rainey: Those are all important, but I believe there’s a most important aspect to romance that will add depth and meaning to your relationship. It’s a shared mission.

Now you might think, “Dennis, how is a shared mission an important part of good romance?” Think about it. In many romantic movies or books, the leading characters are engaged in a quest to solve a mystery, discover a lost artifact, or struggle against a common enemy.

What is your shared mission as a married couple? Are you living for a common goal? Or have you become just two independent people with individual goals?

One final thought. A shared mission implies that you and your mate are reaching for the same objectives. In addition to the task of raising children, think about a shared mission outside your family that you two can live for.

I’m Dennis Rainey, and that’s Real, Romantic FamilyLife.
