Dennis Rainey: It's sad but true. Sometimes our behavior changes if we know we're being watched.
Guest: Probably the only time is maybe when I'm in the kitchen eating something I'm not supposed to be eating. And somebody's watching me and I change my behavior, like, "Hmm...I'm not supposed to be in the cookie jar!
Dennis Rainey: I think we need a fresh reminder of the presence of God in our midst. We have to realize that we are representing Him in our neighborhoods, in our places of business, in the market place, and privately in our homes.
In the 1500's, the Protestant reformers had a saying that went like this: "Coram Deo." It meant "in the presence of God" or "before the face of God." There are many, many moments in any day when we need to be aware that God is watching: Filing income tax returns. Surfing the internet. Disciplining a stubborn child. Talking with a friend who has a juicy piece of gossip. The list can go on and on.
One final thought. As parents, we must live our lives Coram Deo, before the face of God. Not only is He watching us, but our children are, as well.
