Dennis Rainey: It should go without saying...slowing down and taking a break from the hectic pace of life is more than just a luxury.

Guest: My favorite vacation spot in the whole world is South Spain. I spent a few months there. It is beautiful in the summertime. Blue skies, turquoise water, the people were all very nice. Just a really neat place, very different, very laid back, not rush-y, like it is here.[ Read Full Transcript ]

Dennis Rainey: Sounds pretty nice to me!

You know, it doesn't have to be South Spain, but it's important for you and me to take some occasional time away. Unfortunately, all too often, we never stop...not even on the day of rest.

I'll never forget the summer of 1995. I was attending a conference, and God met with us in a very special way. You know why? Because the leadership of that ministry had enough courage to say, "We're not going to have an agenda. We're going to spend the entire morning, some four hours, just alone with God." And about the fourth day of that conference, God was there...in a powerful way! I'm glad the leadership of that ministry had the courage to set that time apart.

One final thought. Even Jesus took time to get away and regularly talk with His heavenly Father...regularly. And if it was important to Him, shouldn't it be in our families, as well?

I'm Dennis Rainey, and that's Real FamilyLife.
