Around the World With Resurrection Eggs

Anticipation fills the room when storytellers share the true meaning of Easter through a set of 12 colorful plastic eggs. Each egg contains a different object symbolizing part of the Easter story. Imagine how American, East Asian, Portuguese, and Russian children's eyes dance as they touch a miniature plastic donkey, tiny praying hands, three silver coins, and a strip of rough leather.
Boys and girls and college students living around the world are delighted with the hands-on illustrations found in Resurrection Eggs, a FamilyLife resource. A best-selling product in America for years, many are using the resource in countries around the world to tell people about Jesus Christ.
One couple in East Asia invited some of their new Christian friends to their apartment. They wrote:
Most of them were surprised to learn of Easter—thinking April Fools' Day was the next big Western holiday after Christmas! … We used a product called Resurrection Eggs … as a creative way of telling the story.
… The eggs were a great interactive approach to explaining the significance of Easter to new believers who have grown up in a country where, for their entire lives, they've been taught that God does not exist.
Another person wrote:
Last year, a lot of my Asian friends accepted Jesus through the Easter party. … The eggs are a great, effective, and non-threatening tool in sharing the gospel and meaning of Easter with both Christians and non-Christians in East Asia!
Friends from Portugal sent FamilyLife an e-mail saying:
Thank you for the Resurrection Eggs idea. We are using them this year with our almost three year old, and our one year old in our evening devotions. Usually our one-year-old daughter doesn't sit very still during devotions, but [she] does for the eggs.
Another couple traveled to two different Russian orphanages when they adopted two of their children saying:
We gave two-dozen Russian Resurrection Eggs to each orphanage and were delighted to see the children's faces light up and their eyes sparkle as they saw the eggs. … They were so full of wonder. … We often think about what that small act will mean in the Kingdom of God and how many Russian children have come to faith because of them.
Jesus often taught by parables or stories. There is no greater story than the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Although Resurrection Eggs is just a simple resource, God is using it to change hardened hearts around the world. |
