Dennis Rainey: Has your family forgotten what Easter’s all about?

Guest: “My family was all Christians...uh...typically, in my town, Easter would mean, for one thing, you WILL go to church that day. If you hadn’t gone the rest of the year, you will go that day, and, ‘You will wear something nice, young man!’”[ Read Full Transcript ]

Dennis Rainey: Hmm. Yep, me too! I remember getting a new pair of Buster Brown shoes every year at Easter.

But shouldn’t there be much more to this holiday? It is, after all, a religious celebration, when Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. And without His resurrection, Christianity is untrue, empty, meaningless. Why? Because if Jesus is still dead, then His life and death are of no value to us. As a result, the Bible is full of errors, and Jesus and thousands of others since are liars.

Here’s the point: The resurrection proved conclusively that Jesus Christ is who He said He is – God in the flesh – and, number two, that His sacrifice on our behalf was sufficient to satisfy God.

So take a moment and ask yourself, “Do I believe that Jesus’ tomb is empty? Can I afford not to? And have I taught my children the real meaning of Easter?”

I’m Dennis Rainey, and THAT’s Real FamilyLife.
