Dennis Rainey: What are your children going to remember about Thanksgiving at your house? I think my children will remember the way my wife, Barbara, has made the story of the pilgrims come alive for our family. There are at least three important principles the Thanksgiving story has taught our children.

First, the pilgrims have taught us to have courage. They left their familiar country to explore unknown territory. Second, the pilgrims have taught us about perseverance. The conditions they faced on the boat coming over were difficult beyond description. Third, they've taught us to have faith. They didn't just have a head knowledge of God. They trusted Him to see them safely across an ocean.

One final thought. During this Thanksgiving season, let me challenge you to review the exciting story of the first Thanksgiving with your children. Don't miss an opportunity to teach them about real courage, real perseverance and yes, real faith.

I'm Dennis Rainey, and that's Real FamilyLife.
