Brian and Cheryl's first contact with FamilyLife occurred in 1996 when they were involved in a couple's bible study which used FamilyLife's HomeBuilders Series. This was their only contact with FamilyLife until eight years later when they attended their first Weekend To Remember conference in Whippany, NJ. They were impressed that the gospel was clearly presented, that it was an event that was run with excellence, and that marriage principles were presented that they believed in and had taught others.

God moved their hearts to attend the staff opportunites seminar presented during that weekend and He clearly spoke to both of them to consider working full-time for FamilyLife. The week after the conference, God confirmed their calling through their study of Philip and the Ethiopian in Acts 8. In addition, God used the circumstances around Brian and Cheryl to show them the need for all people to hear the biblical principles that FamilyLife communicates. They said, "Not long after we attended the Weekend to Remember we began hearing of several couples we knew, both Christian and non-Christian, who were getting or heading towards a divorce."

Brian and Cheryl now see how over many years God had been preparing them spiritually and personally for ministry through different bible studies, seminars, and experiences. "We believe in the importance of strong family relationships, of teaching others God's principles for godly living and how to apply them to marriage and parenting. We are excited about working with a team of people who are committed to sharing the gospel message to others and to strengthening marriages based on Biblical principles." Brian serves as the Director of Human Resources while Cheryl, in addition to homeschooling and nurturing their two children, uses her gift of hospitality to serve various guests of FamilyLife.
