Vice President of Human Resources

The Opportunity

FamilyLife has had the privilege of ministering to millions of people around the world for over 31 years. The growth of the organization has been tremendous, and a strong, functioning Human Resources team will be an integral part of leveraging what God has created in FamilyLife for even greater impact in the coming years.

The Reporting Relationship

This position will report to the FamilyLife Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Bill Eyster, and will be a member of the Senior Leadership Team. The Vice President of Human Resources will interface closely with the President, Executive Vice President and all members of the Senior Leadership Team. The position will also have direct line responsibility for the Human Resources department.  

The Role

Human Resources is a strategic partner that plays a vital role in achievement of the overall mission and vision of FamilyLife.

The Responsibilities (in part)

  • Formulates, implements and manages Human Resources policies and objectives for the entire ministry.
  • Determines and recommends employee relations practices necessary to establish positive employer-employee relationships and promote a high level of staff morale.
  • Is accountable for all aspects of the Human Resources department and ensuring alignment with the strategic plan of the organization.
  • Assists and advises senior management on Human Resources issues.
  • Identifies legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting the Human Resources function. Directs the preparation of information requested or required for compliance.
  • Establishes and manages wage and salary structure, pay policies, performance appraisal programs, employee benefit programs and services, and company safety and health programs.
  • Provides recruiting/hiring processes to track and prioritize ministry-wide staffing needs and fills positions with qualified individuals on a timely basis.
  • Conducts internal and external surveys as needed, and communicates results to appropriate persons.
  • Develops and provides on-going, proactive internal communications with the FamilyLife staff.

Education Requirements

Undergraduate and/or graduate degrees with a concentration in Human Resources preferred.

Professional Qualifications

  • 10-20 years of progressive Human Resources management experience.
  • Deep understanding of Human Resource management disciplines, both corporate and nonprofit.
  • Practical depth and breadth of experience will be heavily weighted in the selection process. Certification in HR related field desirable.
  • Experience in realignment of organizations through mergers and acquisitions.
  • Proven history of attracting and retaining talented people.
  • Self-directed professional with sound judgment and proven abilities in strategic planning. (shortened)

The Timing

This is a key leadership position that needs to be filled urgently without compromising on finding the right talent.

The Compensation

The Vice President of Human Resources position comes with a competitive compensation package for the non-profit market. An optional Religious Missionary Order (RMO) supported model is also available for discussion. Both packages include paid vacation, healthcare and life insurance which will be tailored to meet the needs of the candidate.
