Some activities submitted to FamilyLife by families in the past: A Family TreeMy husband, Jeff, is one of seven sons born to Bob and Joan Johanson. As is the case in many of today’s families, we are spread out geographically and are unable to get together often. The entire family had never been together. This summer, we met in the Great Smoky Mountains—all of us! Grandparents, seven sons, six daughters-in-law, 17 grandchildren, and additional in-laws and friends. Katie, my 11-year-old, and I made a paper tree trunk and limbs and attached it to the wall. We made a paper heart, added Grandma and Grandad’s names, birth dates, and wedding date, and attached that to the trunk. Each son took a limb, traced each of their family members hands on colored paper, and added names and birth dates. When completed, we had our JOHANSON FAMILY TREE. We brought home many wonderful memories, but the most meaningful was seeing the pride our children felt in being part of our family. Now, they have a better understanding of the continuity, the sense of belonging, the blessing of family.
