Overview of the Video Event

What does it mean to be a man? Is it the job he holds, the woman he’s with, or the tight control he has over emotions? Or is it cultivating qualities like faithfulness, integrity, leadership, and influence?

In the Stepping Up video event, FamilyLife® cofounder Dennis Rainey challenges men to reject the world’s definition of manhood and step up to the risks, responsibilities, and rewards of biblical manhood. He encourages them to lead with courage and compassion; build a life of faith; turn fear into bravery and regret into victory; and become a generational influencer. Joining Rainey are men’s ministry leaders Robert Lewis, Matt Chandler, James MacDonald, Voddie Baucham, Bill Bennett, and others who lend expertise in the engaging sessions on video that also include dramatic stories, humorous vignettes, and man-on-the-street interviews. The event has four sessions:

  • Defining manhood
  • Living courageously
  • Building a life of faith
  • Stepping up to lead

The teaching sessions combine with small-group discussion and personal applications to bring home the biblical truths. Each session averages 90 minutes and follows this structure:

  • Video, part 1
  • Personal time (Getting Your Bearings)
  • Video, part 2
  • Group time (Circle Up)

The Stepping Up video event is a great catalytic kick-off event for men for the beginning of a new church year or to launch a study of the Stepping Up small-group video series. Its format lends itself to a single day or a weekend retreat. Hosts will need the video event leader kit, and each guest will need a video event manual.
