Day 8: Guarding Our Relationship

Let marriage be held in honor among all. — Hebrews 13:4

It’s estimated we see an average of 5,000 ads per day. That’s not counting the messages of social media, blog posts, emails, articles, podcasts, etc.!

But most incoming messages aren’t marriage-friendly. To believe them, you’d think we deserve a new car, a better vacation, a perfect body, a flawless spouse. Anything less deserves a do-over.

Every day, couples are giving up on each other for the sake of a greener-grass myth.

One of the best ways to shield your marriage from the corrosion of discontentment?

Spending regular time together, just the two of you—and relentlessly choosing a posture of gratitude. Rather than drifting and looking elsewhere, choose to nurture what God’s given. Sift through it for what’s good—and trust God will provide whatever you truly need.

Praying together for our marriage

He prays: Acknowledge to God your commitment to guard your marriage relationship. Ask Him to help you to be sensitive to your wife’s needs and available to her.

She prays: Ask God to protect the two of you from isolation and withdrawal in your relationship. Ask Him to help you to be sensitive to your husband’s needs and available to him.

GOING DEEPER

Gary Thomas, Priscilla Shirer, and Kay Wills Wyma help us persist in contentment and reject the temptation to compare ourselves with others.
