Spiritual Multiplication Challenge

Foundational Principle:

The call of any believer is to make disciples who will disciple others and so on. This lesson is designed to help you envision this for others so that God’s kingdom work can go on without you.

Scripture to Begin:
2 Timothy 2:2

and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.

Learning

Throughout this course, you’ve been asked to apply what you learn, taking steps of faith that may have pushed you outside your comfort zone. And here’s the biggest challenge of them all: will you take someone through what you just finished?

This is called spiritual multiplication and is key to building God’s kingdom. Jesus sent out disciples to find people of peace and further His work (Luke 10:1-7). Paul knew Timothy could extend the ministry to the Gentiles, so he instructed him to pass on his teachings to “faithful men” who would then teach “others” (2 Timothy 2:2).

This method, often called a “discipleship chain,” is central to fulfilling the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19). Creating a discipleship chain involves investing in others to create exponential growth. By sharing what we’ve learned with at least two other people and challenging them to disciple others, the impact grows exponentially.

Look for those around you who are ready to grow and make an impact. Sometimes, leaders need to be reminded that God wants to use them to make an impact in their corner of the world. Just like Paul set Timothy up for success before his death, we don’t need to wait for a crisis to pass on our legacy. With a little training and guidance others will be prepared to elevate the ministry. They just need a bit of encouragement and belief from you.

Reflection

Think about all that you have learned through this course. Why is it hard for churches to create discipleship chains? What would keep you from discipling someone else, like Paul told Timothy to do in 2 Timothy 2:2?

Applying What We Learn

Think about two friends at church that are just on the cusp of wanting more in their walk with the Lord. Challenge them to go through this resource with you. The following script is given only as an example. Use it to create your own.

“If we are going to get serious about giving every family the opportunity to hear about Christ, it will be individuals like you who make that happen. Spiritual multiplication is a lot like when Jesus selected 12 individuals out of many disciples to help him get the message to more people. I think you’re that kind of person and have proven yourself to be faithful to the mission, available to God and, most importantly, teachable. Let me outline what the commitment would look like, so you can pray about whether God would have you join me on this journey over the next few weeks.”
