Session 1.3

Session 1: The Goal of Parenting

Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him. Children born to a young man are like arrows in a warrior’s hands. How joyful is the man whose quiver is full of them!

Who’s in charge here?

In the chaos of parenting, it’s easy for stuff to get mixed up (“Why are my keys in the dishwasher?”).

But there are a few things you can’t afford to get out of order.

Take Aim Questions

Take some time to journal and process the questions below, they’ll help you apply parenting principles that will set you up for success.

Where do you go for parenting advice?

Do you have a parenting role model?

If you have a parenting role model, write down something you want to talk with them about soon. If you don’t, write down three possible people you could approach about mentoring you as a parent.

The Need To Know

Who you are teaches more than what you say.

  • We’re displaying authentic faith (or not) and a perspective of God in the small and big moments. God must be calling the shots in every element.
  • Kids are watching us trust God and live our beliefs, especially in tough times. They’re watching how to love, and what godly character looks like.
  • Surround yourself with godly mentors who’ve parented their children well, who are allies in raising your children.
