Session 8.1

Session 8: The Power of Family

Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him. Children born to a young man are like arrows in a warrior’s hands. How joyful is the man whose quiver is full of them!

What about when I screw up?

Take Aim Questions

Take some time to journal and process the questions below, they’ll help you apply parenting principles that will set you up for success.

Do you take comfort knowing that God has plans for your child that you can’t completely control, but you get to play an important part?

If you were to pray right now for each of your children, what specific things come to mind that you’d pray for? Why not take time right now to talk to God about those things?

Have you ever prayed for your child’s future spouse?

Feelings of failure and guilt are common to parenting. How often do you experience this?

What nugget of truth will you hold onto from this video session?

The Need To Know

Power supply.

  •   Don’t underestimate one of the most lasting, powerful investments you can make in your kids: praying for them. So “Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16).
  •   We “plant” and “water” in parenting, but it’s God who gives the growth (1 Corinthians 3:6).
  •   Feeling like we’ve messed up our kids is a regular experience of parenting. We repent–and trust God in the middle of our mistakes.
  •   Our ability to ruin our children isn’t nearly as powerful as God’s power to redeem them.
