Ron: When a baby is born parent and child have a deep emotional bond that is stronger than steel. But on day one, what kind of bond do a stepparent and stepchild have?

Announcer: For FamilyLife Blended®, here’s Ron Deal.

Ron: You know, there are about thirty million stepparents in the U.S. today and none of them were born, shall I say, into their parenting role with an automatic emotional bond with their stepchildren. They have to grow that over time.

Well, since bonding provides the backbone to parenting, stepparents have to intentionally build love, respect, and affection for and from their stepchildren. Again, biological parents naturally have all that and the authority that comes with it. So, stepparents make bonding more likely by being patient, having a servant attitude, and trusting God to knit your hearts together.

For FamilyLife Blended I’m Ron Deal.
