Episode Transcript
Ron: Stepparents, have a bonus parent mentality.
Announcer: For FamilyLife Blended®, here’s Ron Deal.
Ron: At our Summit on Stepfamily Ministry, author and stepdad, Steve Arterburn shared some great ideas on becoming a bonus parent. “If you’re still dating,” he said, “Don’t hang around the kids too much unless you know the relationship with their parent is going somewhere. Once you become their stepparent, act like a benevolent uncle or aunt. Try to be positive and encouraging and create fun experiences for the whole family to enjoy.”
And remember to love their parent in clear and obvious ways. Initially kids are more invested in their parent’s well-being, not necessarily in you. It’s not a guarantee, but loving their parent makes it more likely they will love you. For FamilyLife Blended I’m Ron Deal.
