Ron: Hey Ron, should we have a baby?

Ron: Wow, I know that’s a strange question. It’s not every day that someone walks up to you and asks you if they should have a baby. But, honestly, once people find out I work with stepfamilies, couples do ask. I think what they are really saying is, “We’re a blended family, and we’re wondering if having another child is going to help or hurt our family.”
So here’s my answer: “I have no idea.” And then I add, “But I bet you do.” You see, adding a child to a stepfamily generally helps strong stepfamilies get stronger and weak stepfamilies get weaker. So, give careful consideration to how your family is doing and then decide. Having a child is a huge decision. Bathe it in prayer, and ultimately, follow God’s lead.
