Ron: Have you ever noticed how much easier it is to forgive a family member than somebody else?
Announcer: For FamilyLife Blended®, here’s Ron Deal.
Ron: I certainly have noticed this in my life. I find it much harder to forgive an acquaintance compared to a close friend or a family member. I suppose that’s because my family is a part of me, and I have a great deal invested in those relationships. Sometimes stepparents and stepchildren can find it more difficult to forgive each other than other family members. One teenager said it this way, “If my dad hurts my feelings, it’s a lot easier to let it go than if my stepmom does.” Easier…yes. Any less important…no.
The Bible, in Colossians 3, urges us to forgive our grievances with each other, just as the Lord has forgiven us. And as best I can tell, this includes stepfamily members, too. For FamilyLife Blended I’m Ron Deal.
