Ron: Honestly, sometimes when siblings fight, it’s our fault.

Announcer: For FamilyLife Blended®, here’s Ron Deal.

Ron: Sibling conflict is pretty normal but sibling rivalry is rooted in something bigger. Let me tell you a story from the Bible about Jacob who, with Leah—the wife he didn’t love— had many sons. And with Rachel, the wife he did love, had a special son, Joseph. Now Joseph’s brothers really resented him being favored and at age 17 when he was presented with an extravagant robe, they had had enough. They wanted Joseph gone—dead if possible.

The moral of the story: Sibling rivalry is predictable when parents show favoritism. Stepfamilies are vulnerable to this. So do your best to pour yourself equally into every child in your home. They all need you. For FamilyLife Blended, I’m Ron Deal.
