Meet Our Speakers

Drew Hyun

Drew Hyun is the founder and lead pastor of Hope Church NYC, a diverse church with three locations in New York City. Drew is also the executive director of Emotionally Healthy Discipleship, an organization that aims to transform church culture through the multiplication of deeply changed pastors and leaders. He regularly speaks at churches, conferences, and college campuses throughout the United States and abroad.

Tim Muehlhoff

Tim Muehlhoff (Ph.D., University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill) is a professor of communication at Biola University in La Mirada, CA, where he teaches classes on conflict resolution, rhetoric, gender, and engaging diverse perspectives. He is the co-director of the Winsome Conviction Project which seeks to reintroduce humility, civility, and compassion back into our public disagreements, and co-host of the Winsome Conviction Podcast. His most recent book is End the Stalemate: Move from Cancel Culture to Meaningful Conversations (with Sean McDowell) and he’s the creator of a related interactive website designed to help see current issues from different perspectives. Tim and his wife, Noreen, have spoken at FamilyLife marriage conferences for 29 years.

Cheryl Shumake

Cheryl is a bold adventurer at heart, but she’ll tell you her greatest adventure is belonging to the Father, loving Jesus, and making Him known. She’s a passionate speaker, Bible teacher, podcast host, and founder of Stepmom Sanity—a Christ-centered community offering guidance, resources, and unwavering support to stepmoms navigating the complexities of blended family life.

Alongside her husband, Cheryl co-founded Sawubona Blended Families, a ministry dedicated to serving Black and Brown couples leading stepfamilies. Together, they help break cycles of dysfunction, cultivate lasting connections, and build gospel-shaped homes. Through Sawubona, they equip ministry leaders and churches to see the vital need for blended family ministry, offering practical training to launch impactful ministries with minimal barriers—amplifying the reach of the gospel and deepening discipleship.

Cheryl is the author of multiple books, including Waiting to Be Wanted: A Stepmom’s Guide to Loving Before Being Loved, and a regular blogger for Our Daily Bread’s God Hears Her platform. Her insights have been featured on Moody Bible Radio, Family Life Podcast, Family Life Blended Podcast, God Hears Her Podcast, Blended and Blessed, and other national platforms.

She and her husband, Jonathan, live in Michigan, where their home is a revolving door for children seeking hugs, food, and advice they may or may not take!
