Day 22: What To Expect When You’re Not Expecting
Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
— 1 Corinthians 13:7
That beautiful angel you married turned out to be a real woman who sometimes leaves the house a mess. That strong handyman stays so late at the office that he rarely has time to clean the garage. You still love each other, but this isn’t what you dreamed about together on the honeymoon.
We all bring expectations into marriage, but reality often looks quite different. Perhaps you need a fresh perspective, letting go of fantasy and embracing what day-to-day living actually means. This doesn’t mean you are forfeiting, it means you are in the game and on the same team. Letting go of unrealistic expectations makes room for encouragement, support, and respect.
Praying together for our marriage
He prays: Thank God for bringing the two of you together in marriage. Ask Him for a heart that expresses mutual appreciation and support.
She prays: Ask God to help you see each other from His perspective—loved, wanted, and still under construction.
