Day 4: Who’s in Your Corner?

Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
— Genesis 2:24

Have you made the total shift in your allegiance from your parents to your spouse?

Why’s this a big deal? God commands us to leave parents and stick to each other so we can be truly one. This gets awkward—even impossible—when someone’s parent is occasionally inserted as a higher priority.

When looking to each other (rather than parents) for needs to be met, you’re trusting each other. And trust forms the core of any successful marriage.

Praying together for our marriage

He prays: Ask God to continue building trust in your marriage.

She prays: Ask God to make your first allegiance to Him, and then to each other as husband and wife.
