Ron: When it comes to bonding with a stepchild their age matters.
Announcer: For FamilyLife Blended®, here’s Ron Deal.
Ron: The seasons of a child’s life can naturally help or hinder their openness to a stepparent and stepsiblings. Children under the age of five for example, tend to be very welcoming of new family members whereas children between the ages of 10-15 have the most difficult time bonding with stepparents. And then there is the adult stepchild. We all know they are not looking for another parent figure in their life, but they are trying to figure out your place in the family.
So here is the point. If you are a stepparent find a relationship that works for both you and the child. Today that is. And trust that the door will open to something more tomorrow. For FamilyLife Blended I’m Ron Deal.
