Ron: This stepdad felt like his wife’s relationship with her daughter was getting in the way of his relationship with his wife. In stepfamilies, it’s fairly common for people to feel jealous of someone, but what they really feel is fearful and insecure. If their jealousy could talk what it would say is, “I want to feel important and I’m afraid you took my place.”

But here’s the deal, if you act on your jealousy you’ll just become bitter, critical, competitive, and then you will lose your place. But if you ask God to give you compassion for the very person you’re jealous of, you might just discover that love leaves more than enough room for everyone to be important.
