Ron: Every once in a while I get a look from a pastor or church leader like, “Why should we need to start a stepfamily ministry? Well, listen to these stats. The “Sandwich generation” couples—you know, they have at least one parent still living and children of their own. Now, for the first time, over half have either a stepparent or stepchild relationship. Fifty two percent. And for sandwich couples under 55 the rate goes up to 62%. In other words, increasingly blended families are going to be the norm of the future.
Hmmm. Women’s and men’s ministry is based on half the population. Maybe it’s time we do the math with families. Blended families, this is us. For FamilyLife Blended I’m Ron Deal.
