Ron: Here’s a tip for building a bridge to your stepchild’s heart. Don’t take rejection personally.

Announcer: For FamilyLife Blended®, here’s Ron Deal.

Ron: You know, sometimes I find that when a child is struggling to accept a stepparent it really has more to do with wanting to stay in contact with their biological parent than it does necessarily rejection of the stepparent. Now if you can keep that in mind, then maybe you won’t take the rejection so personally.

You know the Apostle Paul. He was a pretty good guy, and he spoke lots of truth but lots of people rejected him. But I think what kept him going was feeling his heavenly Father’s approval even when he didn’t have it from those around him. That sounds like a pretty good prescription for stepparents, too. For FamilyLife Blended I’m Ron Deal.
