Ron: You know eager stepparents have the best of intentions but sometimes they just jump into the middle of a child’s life too quickly. So let me give you a tip. Wise is the stepparent who monitors. Let me explain what that means.
Monitoring means you know the child’s schedule. You check in with them about band practice and ask them about friends and the upcoming math test and what they want for Christmas. But you don’t step into the child’s personal life, their feelings, and their concerns until they invite you in. You see you have to take a small step before you can take a bigger step.
