Write it Down, Live it Out, Pass it On
Businessmen are familiar with strategic planning. But what about applying that same strategy to your family? Family Vision Ministries President Greg Gunn and his wife, Rhonda, realized their need to be on the same page when it came to raising their family of seven. They started meeting regularly to discuss goals for their marriage and children, and eventually they came up with a family vision statement and the top 25 values they wanted their family to live by.

Write it Down, Live it Out, Pass it On
Bob: —that one.
Greg: I have. [Laughter] Alright. We—
Bob: That’s from the—that’s the Declaration of Independence; right?
Greg: That’s from the Declaration. That’s correct.
Bob: “Pledge to each other our lives”—
Greg: —“our lives, our fortunes”—
Bob: —“our fortunes, our sacred honor”—
Greg: —“to defend, protect, and pass a better-defined, clearer family vision to every generation of our family. For without the vision, we will perish.”
Bob: So, you were saying to your kids, “This doesn’t just stop with us doing this around the dinner table, but this needs to carry on.”
Greg: Amen.
Bob: Yes.
Dennis: What I hear you saying in both your vision statement and your mission statement—that, really, your ministry wants to help moms and dads discover why God has them here—
Greg: Very good.
Dennis: —and then, pass that vision on to your children, intentionally. You actually have a statement—I wrote it down. I thought it was pretty good. You have some catch phrases: “Write it down,” “Live it out,” “Pass it on”—because if you don’t write it down, you’re more than likely not going to live it out. If you don’t live it out, how in the world will you pass it on to your kids?
I think you’re really articulating what’s on the heart of every parent. Every parent wants to pass it on. They really do want to equip the next generation to be able to do life, have their own families, and leave a godly legacy.
Bob: Well, and this is something that, Greg, you talked about in the Stepping Up® video series that we put together. In fact, this is the point where I need to just make the commercial because on Saturday, February 2nd, we’ve got a one-day event for guys. It’s a kick-off event on what we’re calling Super Saturday, the day before the big game. It’s a rally for men to step up and be godly men.
Then, we’re hoping that out of that one-day event there’ll be guys who will be huddling up with other guys in smaller groups, going through the Stepping Up 10-week video series that we’ve put together. Greg is in that series, talking about how you develop this idea of a family vision—a family mission. We’re about three weeks away now from the Stepping Up Super Saturday event, but there is still time for a guy to host one of these events in a local community.
If you go to FamilyLifeToday.com, you click on the link for “STEPPING UP”. You can find out where these events are being hosted in your community. You can find out how to host an event like this at your local church or in your community. Then, you can get information about the 10-week series that follows the kick-off event. All of the information you need is at FamilyLifeToday.com when you click on the link that says, “STEPPING UP”.
Our team is so excited about, not just Super Saturday, but about guys getting into the 10-week study, following that day, that they’ve put together a special offer, this week only, for guys who want to get both the event kit and the 10-week study that follows it—you get all of that together. There’s a special offer that’s available this week only.
We have had some people calling and saying, “Man, we wanted to do this, but we just can’t do it on February 2nd. Well, here’s a little secret—you can do it later if you want to. You can do it the week after, or two weeks after, or do it in March or April—whatever works for you. We’re just trying to rally guys together on Super Saturday to see if we can get something launched here. Again, go to FamilyLifeToday.com for more information about Super Saturday and about the special offer this week; or call 1-800-FL-TODAY and ask about the Super Saturday event.
When you get in touch with us, look for information about the book that Greg Gunn has written called Family-iD—Intentional Direction, having a vision—an intentional purpose for your family. This is a book that walks you through the whole process. You can do this with your family. It’s simple, easy to execute, and it’s spelled out pretty clearly in the book by Greg Gunn called Family-iD. So, get more information about that when you get in touch with us, again, at FamilyLifeToday.com or when you call 1-800-FL-TODAY.
Now, a quick word of thanks to those of you who are supporters of FamilyLife Today—you pray for us, you help support this program with financial support. We’re listener- supported. We could not do what we do—we couldn’t cover the costs for producing and syndicating this radio program if we didn’t have folks, like you, who from time to time got in touch with us to help support this ministry.
In fact, this week, if you can help us with a donation to support FamilyLife Today, we’d like to say, “Thank you,” by making available a CD that features the conversation you heard last week, here on FamilyLife Today, with Elyse Fitzpatrick about her book, Love to Eat, Hate to Eat, to help reorient our thinking about food, and diet, and how we keep food from becoming an idol in our lives. We’d love to send you that CD as our thank-you gift when you make a donation this week. Go to FamilyLifeToday.com and click on the button that says, “I CARE”; or call 1-800-FL-TODAY and make a donation over the phone. Ask for the CD called Love to Eat, Hate to Eat when you get in touch with us. Again, we want to say, “Thanks for your support of the ministry. We appreciate your generosity and your partnership with us, here on FamilyLife Today.”
We want to encourage you to join us back again tomorrow when we’re going to continue talking with Greg Gunn and his wife Rhonda about having an intentional vision—a purpose for your family. We’ll talk more about that tomorrow. Hope you can be here.
I want to thank our engineer today, Keith Lynch, and our entire broadcast production team. On behalf of our host, Dennis Rainey, I'm Bob Lepine. We’ll see you back tomorrow for another edition of FamilyLife Today.
FamilyLife Today is a production of FamilyLife of Little Rock, Arkansas.
Help for today. Hope for tomorrow.
